Community Welfare Project

Human resilience has taken a new meaning in the year 2020. In many ways it has made us stop and reassess our lives. It has forced us to think where the world is headed to and how each one of us as an individual can collectively contribute in making it a better place for a sustainable future.

Contributing to society will not only help a person for a better life but can also be extremely de-stressing. We, at Monkey Adventures, are working towards contributing to the welfare of the communities around us, one such project is our collaboration with Tuleeni Orphans home, a special place in Tanzania that provides shelter to homeless children. Every contribution you make will make a big difference in these children’s lives. The Word Tuleeni in Swahili means ‘care us’. Every child needs care, love, peace, to be respected, educated, and have all daily social basic requirements including food, shelter and clothes.

Tuleeni Orphans Home was started by Mama Faraji in 2005. This organization was created to overcome problems left to the children after their parents died or don’t have the ability to take care of their children, due to poverty. In Tanzania, there are approximately 4 million children under 14 who are not properly cared for. A big part is that these children are orphans, many of which have lost their parents or left helpless due to poverty. Many of these children live on the streets, trying to make a living by begging or stealing .Other children who don’t have a family and don’t actually live on the streets, but with other relatives or host families, have to stand behind the host families’ own children in terms of nutrition, accommodation, and education and are often abused as “working slaves” or find themselves in the lowest position in society, often being the target of physical violence, humiliation, and sexual abuse. These reasons pushed Mama Faraji to establish the orphanage.

Despite the troubled background of the children, they are happy and appreciative of all that they have been given. The most important and noticeable thing about this orphanage is their belief in education. Most of the children never even have had the opportunity to see the inside of a school building. This orphanage spends more than $26,000 a year to send its children to school. Despite having small projects to help run the orphanage, they still rely heavily on international donors and well-wishers. Currently there are 54 children living at the orphanage. There are many children who only live at the orphanage seasonally, as they are in private boarding schools (funded by international sponsors) or away at college and University. In addition to all of the kids that live at the orphanage, there are other children that live somewhere else, similar to a foster placement, with extended families that the orphanage supports financially.

Considering everything that this orphanage does for the children of the world, they are bound to run out of funds. Many of its former volunteers host small fundraisers upon their return to their home which assist in running the orphanage, but they need more support in this noble cause. There are many students who are in college and university studying medicine, education, science, engineering, business, nursing school, librarian school, and vocational schools. In a nation where the tertiary education rate is as low as 0.7%, it is easy to say that none of these students would ever have had a chance to get education without the help of Tuleeni Home. The fiscal capacity of government to improve lives of the orphans and the condition of their caregivers in Tanzania is extremely limited. The orphanage requires monetary resources that it does not presently have from the government and is likely to get it in the near future.

Their Mission:

Empowering orphans and vulnerable children by providing services such as medical care, education, love, and all the necessities that children need to return hope in their lives and to build a better future for them.

Objective:

  • Educating the children at various levels from nursery to university.
  • Provide equal opportunities to all children by giving them better education, love, encouragement and any necessary requirements that they need as children.
  • Educate communities about the causes, effects and the needs of orphans and vulnerable children to our societies.
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment to orphans and vulnerable children, through which they all receive all the necessary provision for a good quality of life.
  • Put the children in an environment that is conducive to their social, physical and emotional development.
  • Give the children better education by assisting in the provision of educational fees and costs associated with education as well as working with sponsors and donors to meet these needs.
  • Advancing the quality of life and relieving the needs of the children through recreational and leisure activities.

What do they need?

Tuleeni believes in education. Number of children has increased dramatically and there is a lack of funds to cater for the various needs of these children especially food, education and healthcare. The greatest challenge the orphanage is currently facing is to secure sponsors for all the children. They operate by funds from donors and friends and their yearly budget is approximately $42,000. They spend more than $26,000 a year to send children to school. Despite having small projects that help in running the orphanage, they still rely heavily on international donors and well-wishers. We are appealing to all well-wishers who wish to volunteer or willing to donate to this project and make these children's dreams come true.

How can you contribute?

Any small donation or contribution as per your will is appreciated and accepted with great love and respect.
